WORKING WITH LIGHT
When I’m out scouting for compositions at this time of the year the amount of light isn’t always as present as I hope for. It’s there, you can see the contrast on the tree trunk and on the woodland floor, but it’s not as noticeable as I would like. In cases like this it’s nice to know what’s possible to get out of it when you’re back in Lightroom and photoshop. This knowledge helps a lot, and makes it easier to find compositions you can work on.
It’s just the same way as artist did it with their sketch books, and still do. Scouting for a composition, finding the colours and light they like, and then create the image from the sketch they drew and the image they have in their mind. I guess as a photographer we do almost the same, making our sketch with the RAW image and them finish the image based on the RAW file and the memories we have from the moment we captured that image.
I’ve always looked upon my photography as art, I’m no documentary photographer. I just want to pass on to the viewers the feelings I felt at the time I captured the image, and at the same time show the beauty we have around us. This beauty exist everywhere, not only on those epic places we see online every day.
The light, the shadows and colours works for me just the same way as it works for a painter when he or she build up their work. We also use the same tools to guide our viewers around our image, and to express our feeling for the moment we have chosen to capture and to share.
