PHOTOGRAPHY, WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
From I was a small kid I’ve always been drawing or making things with my own hands. Not necessarily amazing stuff, but I loved creating something I could relate to, something that was mine. As the years went by, I got occupied in school, and later at work. That’s the normal life I guess, but my creativity shifted from making my own stuff, to do what others told me to do, and I kind of lost my own creativity for several decades.
TREES, COLOURS AND LIGHT
The weather has changed, more wind, and it’s colder in the morning. Hopefully this gives me some opportunities to make some morning mist images, I’ve got a few ideas, but need the conditions to get them working. Would love some images with the mist drifting over the water and the trees in the background just exploding with warm Autumn colours. As long as I get the mist, I’ve got the trees lined up. But until that happen, I’m stuck with my woodland and forest scenes.
FINDING INSPIRATION THROUGHOUT COVID
Yes, I've got Covid as Norway now have opened up and gone back to normal.
So many have been through the same these last couple of years, so many people didn't make it for different reasons. I know I'm getting out on the other side thanks to the vaccine. Still, being caged and restricted to get out whenever I choose are frustrating.
SOFT LIGHT, UNTOUCHED SNOW, AND A TIBETAN MONK.
I've been trying my best to get the hang on this winter and snow photography for the last few months. Still struggling with compositions, but I think my obsession for light may have helped me a little bit further.
THE SNOW IS GONE, AT LEAST FOR NOW
It's so nice to finally get some green moss beneath my boots again, have been missing this for a long while.
This view bring back all the memories I have from last year, all the wonderful walks amount these trees filled with colours, and warm light.
GROPING IN THE BLIND, LOST?
Since my first nervous steps onto the unknown path of photography, my love for this wonderful Art have steadily been growing. As my feet have carried me through boggy ground, knee deep creeks and rocky ground, I've always manage to keep on moving forwards.
WITH BEAUTIFUL LIGHT COMES INSPIRATION
I see and read about other photographers that love this part of the year, and I do see the beauty with snow covered trees, white mountain and even blizzards. Right now I don’t have so much snow covered trees, just barely snow on them. Not as much snow in the mountains either, and blizzard's, nothing near that at all. In most cases we get heavy rain, not snow.
WORKING WITH LIGHT
When I’m out scouting for compositions at this time of the year the amount of light isn’t always as present as I hope for. It’s there, you can see the contrast on the tree trunk and on the woodland floor, but it’s not as noticeable as I would like. In cases like this it’s nice to know what’s possible to get out of it when you’re back in Lightroom and photoshop.
WOODLAND TRANSFORMATION
The first snow has arrived, most of us goes almost bananas over this cold wet thing, a few of us start dreaming about spring and colours, but not me. I’m no big fan of winter and snow. I do love beautiful winter images, but I don’t like going out looking for compositions. I want colours and light, not all white light and almost just black and white colours.
POWER OF LIGHT
The excitement when I stumble upon a possible composition are so satisfying and thrilling. It doesn't matter how long I have to wait until I get the light I hoped for, and many times I don't get it. But the excitement are still real, just have to have another go sometimes later.
BIRCHES ON THE BEACH
Getting up early give you the opportunity to be at the right spot at the right time. I'll be the first to admit I hate getting up early, mostly because I end up working late and never manage to get to bed until about midnight, that is if I'm lucky. Most of the time it gets a "bit" passed midnight.
HEATHER AND PINE TREES
As I was working on a panorama I spotted these two Pine trees catching a bit of sunlight, they kind a glowed, and I just had to see if it was possible to use them in a composition. Had to do a bit of scouting to find a suitable foreground and I think the Heather works great.
SMOKIN’ WATER
Normally a dead sky means no image for a lot of those more professional, I guess. Maybe a waste of time, but then there is that sunlit mist, and I just couldn't ditch the composition just because the sky just had one cloud. Not so bad at all.
FERN AND BIRCHES
The colours we get in the forest and surrounding woodland after some rain are so beautiful. I still struggle with all that green colour, but my forest and woodland are green at this time of the year so I just have to keep my photography away from the sunlight, or at least mainly ambient light.
OUT OF THE SHADOW
I'm mainly looking for the light, trying to compose and frame my composition based on how the light hit my subject or the scene.
To see how the light bring out the 3D form of the tree are so rewarding. Those tiny shadowed areas make the tree really stand out from the background.
THAT LITTLE TOUCH
I’m always on the look out for some small pieces of colour I can incorporate into my composition. Right now my local woodland are very green, but together with the light, the shadows and the small amount of red and orange in the Pine trees it's still possible to frame up a composition.
