HEATHER AND PINE TREES
After a long week at work it’s very refreshing to finally get out into the forest and woodland with my camera. Still mostly greenish colours, but starting to see a slightly shift towards yellow, so the Autumn may be announcing it's arrival pretty soon.
The Heather also starting to bloom so I get a bit more colours on the ground. I'm still hunting for spots of ambient light just to get that transition from the dark forest into the lighter more open fields, but it’s still hard to find a composition without to much contrast, so using my feet still is a major part of composing and framing my images.
As I was working on a panorama I spotted these two Pine trees catching a bit of sunlight, they kind a glowed, and I just had to see if it was possible to use them in a composition. Had to do a bit of scouting to find a suitable foreground and I think the Heather works great.
I soon found out that without that warm sunlight the trees didn’t give that sense of glow, so ended up waiting for a bit of sunlight as I hoped that would ad to the effect. The ambient light did bring depth into the composition, but it didn't give me the glow I had seen earlier. From earlier experience I have finally learned that if I start waiting for the light I need to be persistent.
I have packed down my camera and tripod too early in a few similar situation earlier, and missed the light because I wasn't patients enough. Have learned that lesson now I hope, at least it got the light I wanted this time. Think the image came out nice, and with the sunlight I gained a bit of yellow colours too, and that works great with the touch of blue in the background trees.
